Srinagar: An English theatre play Fading Memoirs presented by XMITA has bagged several awards in recently held annual theatre festival-2017 at Tagore Hall. The festival was conducted by J&K Cultural Academy.
The play emerged winner with 5 (five) top honors that included Best Director (Arshad Mushtaq), Best Actor female (Ridha Akhoon), Best Light Design (Wasim Raja Khan) besides being one of the top production and a special honour in acting for theatre legend and veteran actor M Yousuf Shahnaaz.
The play knit present geo political scenario and talked about global humanitarian issues concerning common innocent people who suffer as a result of war becoming an industry across the world. With its wide canvass the scenes shifted across continents (Syria, Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq, Kashmir etc ) and created a strong anti-war narrative.
The performers included Basharat Hussain in lead apart from M Yousuf Shahnaaz who with this production completed 50 years of illustrious career on Kashmiri stage who were supported by Ridha Akhoon, Maqbool Mir, Rayees Wathori and others.
This 90 minute theatre production gave viewers a chance to witness an innovative experimental theatrical experience based on poems of Shaikh-ul-Alam (ra), T S Eliot, Rasa Javidani, Mahmoud Darwaish, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Aga Shahid Ali, Rafeef Zehdah and Arsh Mushtaq and did away with a usual script.
Blending post modernist contemporary immersive theatre, performance art, Fading Memoirs also experimented with conventional theatre and traditional folk form.
The performance mesmerised the audience and received standing ovation and much praise after it was staged last week.
The play will return later this summer with more shows.
