Srinagar: A citizens delegation led by veteran Congress leader Mani Shankar Ayyar Thursday visited Budgam and called on Agha Syed Hassan, prominent Shia leader of the Hurriyat Conference.

According to reports,  Aga Syed Hasan castigated Indian media and so called intellectuals for double speak and and fabrications about Shia community of Kashmir.

Delegation under the banner of Centre for Peace and Progress led by Mani Shankar Aiyar also comprised O P Shah, Air Vice Marshal (retd) Kapil Kak and journalist Vinod Sharma.

Aga also urged the delegation to dispel misconceptions propagated by Indian news media that Shia Muslims in Kashmir were aloof from the ongoing struggle.

When contacted Aga Hasan, who is associated with Geelani led Hurriyat Conference confirmed his meeting with the delegation. “I had not invited the delegation. I talked about ground reality and asked them to stop buying time and use their good offices to get the Kashmir issue resolved. I in fact made them clear the Shia community of Jammu and Kashmir is part and parcel of Kashmir freedom struggle. It is peoples movement.”
