SRINAGAR: Asif Khurshid of B.Com 1st semester Tuesday won Islamia College Annual Road Race, a statement from colleges physical education department-organisers of the event-said.
Asif won the race comfortably with his closest rivals way behind him at the end. Asif clocked 16:47:21 minutes to cover 5.7 KM distance followed by Suhail Nisar of B Com 2nd Semester in 17:23:47 and Muzaffar Hussain of BCA 3rd Semester in 17:29:54 minutes. The race that started at at Nishat Bagh gate was flagged off by Prof. G.M. Tibetbkal the principal of the college.
According to the statement, as many as 127 students took part in the race that had Duck Park as the finishing line.
The 4th and 5th positions were grabbed by Parvaiz Ahmed Ganie and Masood Ahmed B. Com by clocking the timings of 18:20 23 and 18:45:11 minutes respectively.
The top five spot winners were given trophies by Bakal who impressed upon the participants to inculcate a habit to actively participate in the games of their choice in and outside the college alongside their studies in order to be embodiments of sound minds in sound bodies.
Prof. Abid Mirza convener college sports committee, Dr. Mohammad Hanif and Dr. Nasreen Qureshi were also part of the presentation committee.
Prof. Tanvir Khan presented the vote of thanks to participating students and the staff members for making the hassle free race a grand success.
The event was organised by the department of Physical Education of the college.
