Srinagar: The Hydraulic Circle of the Public Health Engineering department has virtually become defunct in absence of Superintending Engineers across Kashmir Valley.
A Superintending Engineer is supposed to be appointed to take care of the affairs of twin districts. However, the PHE Ministry Government of Jammu and Kashmir has been showing no interest to appoint Superintending Engineers in Kashmir. Sources told CNS that Government has been sitting on the promotions of Executive Engineers in Kashmir Divisions while in Jammu Division; such promotions have already been made.
A top official said that over 22 Executive Engineers in Power Development Department and Public Health Engineering Department have been awaiting promotions.
Reports added that Hydraulic Circle of the Public Health Engineering department has failed to appoint any Superintending Engineer for Srinagar and Ganderbal, Kulgam and Islamabad, Sopian and Pulwama and Kupwara district. The Hydraulic Circle functions without the services of SEs in these districts.
In South Kashmirs Islamabad district, the post of SE is lying vacant since August 2016. Similarly there is no SE in Pulwama since July 2016. In Kupwara also SE post has not been filled from March this year. Srinagar city is also without an SE from past month.
When contacted, PHE Minister Shayam Lal Chowdary said that these posts will be filled shortly. He said that the promotions of Executive Engineers in Kashmir are also on cards. (CNS)
