Srinagar: In a bid to discourage shopkeepers using polythene, Srinagar Municipal Corporation Saturday offered cotton bags to traders and vendors in Humhama area.
The drive against the use of polythene was started by SMC in ward number 33 of Humhama in collaboration with Salsabeel Institute and Orbit School. Ward Officer Shakeel Ahmed Sheikh and Coordinator Mushtaq Ahmed Dhobi supervised the drive.
It was a pleasing experience and good to watch shopkeepers handing over polythene bags willingly. We offered them cotton bags free of cost. The drive against the use of polythene will continue and we are hopeful to turn Humhama polythene free zone, Shakeel Ahmed told CNS.
