Srinagar: Police on Saturday said that marine commandos of the Navy have been pressed into service to find the constable who jumped into a river in Kupwara reportedly under the influence of liquor.
A spokesman said that the constable Sameer Ji Kumar, belt no 862/S, working with Srinagar police was reported missing from his duties since May 14.
“Accordingly, a missing report was lodged in Police Station Sherghari. During the course of investigation, it has been revealed that the missing constable had absented from his duties and went to Kupwara along with a colleague and his uncle Head Constable Dileep Kumar,” he said.
The spokesman said that the constable jumped into Puhroo river in Handwara, reportedly under the influence of liquor.
“Every effort is being made to trace him. Marine commandos of Navy are also being pressed into service along with the river police,” he added.
