Srinagar: Authorities today foiled a scheduled rally of Awami Action Committee (AAC) by imposing curfew-like restrictions in Old City here on the death anniversaries of Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq and Hawal martyrs.
As part of Hafta-e-Shahadat programme, the chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) and Valleys chief cleric, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, was scheduled to lead huge pro-freedom rally from Jama Masjid to Hawal in memory of his late father and Hawal martyrs. However authorities clamped restrictions in three police station areas of Old City and did not allow any gathering to take place.
Pertinently scores of people were killed when Govt forces opened fire on mourners carrying body of Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq who was killed by unidentified gunmen at his Nigeen residence.
The joint resistance leadership has called for a shutdown tomorrow in Valley and Eidgah Chalo. But police said that they will not allow any such march and restrictions shall continue.
