SRINAGAR: The summit clash of much talked about Junior Cricket Championship was played on Saturday at Delhi Public School Athwajan ground between New Greenland Sumbal and Zainapora Shopian teams, an official statement said.
New Greenland were the title winners with a win over Zainapora in the summit clash, taking home a cash prize of Rs one lakh. Zainapora, the runner-ups, were richer by Rs 50,000.
The tournament was organised by Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council in collaboration with DPS Athwajan.
As many as 320 teams, the statement said, represented by 4800 players across the valley vied for the top glory. A total of 319 matches were played.
Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti was in attendance watching the finals for sometime during which she interacted with the players and egged them on to play the sport with sportsmanship spirit.
Minister for IT & Youth Services & Sports, Moulvi Imran Raza Ansari; legislators, Aijaz Mir and Raja Manzoor; Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Hilal Parray; Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone; Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Waheed ur Rehman Parra; Principal and management of DPS, Athwajan and besides a decent crowd watched the summit clash.
