Srinagar: A top army officer on Saturday said that not more than 200 militants are active in Kashmir Valley.
Major Gen AK Singh, the Kilo Force GOC, according to news agency GNS said the army will eliminate all the militants for complete restoration of peace in Kashmir Valley. I think there are around 190 to 200 militants in Kashmir. Their numbers have reduced compared to past, he said. He was interacting with media-persons at Baramulla on the sidelines of Mega Kissan Mela.
The GOC, while reacting to resistance leader Syed Ali Shah Geelanis remarks on army goodwill schools, said education is the only way out for development of children and those who are asking people not to send their wards to army schools should look within. They should also see in which schools their children are studying, he asked.
He said that government forces including army and police will restore peace in Kashmir. The General added that there are militants waiting on the other side to cross into this Kashmir but army will foil their attempt. We are alert to foil their designs. Our counter-infiltration grid is strong and alert. We are using modern technology like drones, UAVs, night cameras to foil intruders attempts to sneak in, he added. (GNS)
