Sarpanch kin hurt in Lolab blast

Srinagar: A family member of a National Conference Sarpanch was injured in a blast near his home in Lolab area of frontier Kupwara district.

While local reports suggest that the injuries was due to grenade hurled by unknown persons, police insist that the blast occurred due to presence of explosive material near the house.

Local reports told news agency GNS that the grenade was hurled on the house of Abdul Ahad Dar, local NC Sarpanch, at Dar Mohall in Sogam, Lolab. They said that in the grenade explosion, Dar’s nephew identified as Tauseef Dar sustained injuries and he was rushed to nearby hospital for treatment.

Soon after the attack, senior police officials rushed to the spot and assessed the situation. However, a senior police official who is posted in Sogam area denied that it was a grenade explosion. “It was an explosive object brought by some children from nearby forest area which exploded while fiddling today and resulted in injuries to Tauseef,” he said.

The officer said that police have launched further investigation into the matter. However official sources said that the security in the Lolab belt has been intensified following the attack and police has been alerted.
