Srinagar: With Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) failing to take action against violators, illegal constructions are being raised in Brein Nishat near Dal Lake.

Reports said that LAWDA has failed to take any action and has been acting as mute spectator. The locals alleged that there is a deep nexus between some LAWDA officials and the unscrupulous elements.

“We are surprised at the behavior of LAWDA. In broad day light, illegal structures have been coming up and still no action is being initiated against the violators,” the residents said adding that the constructions  started popping up during unrest, while after the situation normalized no action was taken by the field staff of LAWDA.

The locals alleged that LAWDA official’s only target poor while influential are spared and given free hand to vandalize picturesque Dal?” said a resident of New Colony Brein.

He said the government should initiate probe into the constructions that have come up around this lake illegally.
