5.74 Lac Children To Be Administered Polio Vaccine Today

Srinagar: As many as 5.74 lakh children up to the age of five years will be immunised at 1,701 vaccination booths under Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI Phase 2) on Sunday in five Kashmir districts, including Kupwara, Bandipora, Kulgam, Srinagar and Budgam.
 

An official spokesperson here today said that the second phase of the anti-polio drive will be carried out in central Kashmir district of Budgam on April 2, 2017 for which 568 vaccination booths would be setup in different parts of the district to cover 1,03,359 lakh children in the age group of 0-5 years.
 

He said that besides deploying 2252 Health workers/ASHAs/AWWs, 113 supervisors and 10 district monitors are being deployed in the district for the campaign, adding that nine transit camps are also being set up in the district for this purpose.
 

Meanwhile, he said 1.36 lakh children upto five years of age will be administered polio vaccines in north Kashmir district of Kupwara.
 

He said that 720 vaccine booths have been established in the district with a deployment of 3,083 officials. Besides 27 medical teams, 146 supervisory staff and representatives of NGOS shall also monitor the process.
 

He said that 62,106 children up to the age of 5 years will be immunised at 325 vaccination booths set up in the district. “Services of 1300 workers from health, ICDS and Education Departments, besides NGOs will be availed at vaccination booths and 65 supervisors will monitor the programme,” he added.
 

The spokesperson said 25 high risk areas in the district have been identified where special arrangements have been made to cover children under the programme.
 

He said that 630 polio booths with 2,520 workers have been set up in Srinagar to administer doses to 1,83,861 number of children up to the age of five years.
Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Srinagar said the district administration has set up polio booths in every part of Srinagar and appealed the parents to get their children immunised on April 2.

 

Pulse Polio is an immunisation campaign established by the Government of India to eradicate poliomyelitis (polio).
 

The spokesperson said comprehensive strategy and joint action plan by administration and health department have been adopted during this phase of the IPPI programme.
 

As many as 88,765 children up to the age of 5 years will be immunised at 508 vaccination booths to be set up in the district. “2032 workers and 101 supervisors have been appointed for the purpose,” he added.
 

He said that for the convenience of public, the Health Department has established 12 transit points in five Medical Blocks of the district for this purpose.
 

The Health Department has identified six high risk areas here at D H Pora and Qazigund, including Hallan DH Pora, Bangiward, Nagnard, Hallan Lammer, Kund Guger Basti and Waltengoo Nard.
 

To effectively monitor the implementation of the Immunization Programme, he said that the Health Department has constituted District & Block Level monitoring squads in the district.
