Arrest Spree Deplorable: Mirwaiz

SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (M) chief, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who has been put under house arrest for the past more than two weeks on Monday paid rich tributes to the two slain militants, Shafi Ahmad and Farooq Ahmad, who were killed in Padgampora on Sunday.

“It greatly pains that our youth who are the future of our nation should sacrifice their life when they should have been living out their dreams of a bright and prosperous future. But severe oppression and occupation of their nation unfortunately forces many among them to choose the path of armed struggle, for the liberation of their motherland,” the incarcerated Hurriyat Conference (M) chairperson said.

“Government of India should give up its obduracy and admit that the political aspirations of the people of Kashmir have to be taken cognizance of and respected and suppression and subjugation as a policy cannot be continued forever,” he added.

“Day and night wide spread arrests and detention of civilians activists and workers from across the valley by the state forces house arrest of resistance leaders and barring people from visiting them, harassing people by nocturnal raids, frisking and checking and other inconvenience caused in order to conduct the drama of elections is not only deplorable but ridiculous and a cruel joke upon the people who are already continuously at the receiving end of ‘so called democratic rule’,” he said.
