Officer Sells Off Govt Asset, Attached

Pahalgam: Executive Officer Municipal Committee Pahalgam was attached after authorities found him involved in selling off a government owned property in tourist resort of Pahalgam.

Tariq Ahmad was attached and investigation launched after reports that a government asset had been sold to one Idrees Baba by Muncipal Committee Pahalgam for Rs 67,000. Baba is a local contractor.

Abdul Rahman Ganaie, President Hoteliers Association, Pahalgam told Kashmir Observer that it was shocking that officials were involed in such murk deals in the best known tourist destination.

As per reports former CEO Pahalgam Development Authority Riyaz Ahmad Wani earlier issued a notice to the said contractor asking him to vacate the building but he paid no heed.

Residents are demanding the said asset be made available for public use.They have threatened of protest if the unauthorised occupation was not removed within a week.

Officials here posted in various departments are rarely transferred giving rise to vested interests, alleged one M Iqbal, a local trader. He said officials need to be shifted in order to maintain transparency and checking corruption
