Shopian encounter: Operation called off after militants flee

Shopian: The joint operation between Army and the Special Operations Group (SOG) against militants was called off on Saturday in Chillipora Heff village of Shopian in south Kashmir after no contact was established.

The encounter had erupted late Friday night after militants threw a grenade and opened fire on army men laying a siege to the village.

Reports said that forces have left the village as there was no firing from any side since early today.

It is believed that holed up militants have fled the village during the night even the search operation lasted for many hours today, added reports .
