SRINAGAR: Expanding the reach of quality health care facilities at the door steps of Valleyites, the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir (DHSK) on Thursday conducted first ever major cancer surgery in district hospital Pulwama in South Kashmir.
An elderly male patient with CA Rectum was successfully operated upon by a team of doctors in Pulwama hospital, said DHSK said in a statement today.
The patient was having a history of bleeding PR for the last 6 months and had a polypoid growth 5 cm from anal verge on digital rectal examination. The histopathological report showed high grade dysplasia. The patient underwent low anterior resection with stapled anatomises and a covering ileostomy, the statement informed.
The team of doctors which performed the major surgery included Dr Shameem (Onco Surgeon), Dr Khalid (Surgical Gastroenterologist), Dr Imran Gul (Surgeon), Dr Hilal, Dr Naseer (Anesthetist), Naseer Pandit, Mohammad Maqbool, Mushtaq and Ms Sabiya (OT Paramedical Staff).
The doctors worked under the supervision of Dr Rashid Para, MS Pulwama hospital, who besides provided logistic support to the team.
Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Saleem ur Rehman, has appreciated the hospital administration and the operative team in achieving this feat.
