Handwara gunfight: 3 militants killed, soldier injured

Handwara: Three militants were killed and an army soldier received bullet injuries on Tuesday evening in a gunfight at Khan Mohlla in Hajin Kralgund area of Handwara’s Kupwara district.
 

Defence ministry spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia confirmed the killing of three militants.

He said following specific information about the presence of militants at Kralgund Handwara in Kupwara, a joint search operation was launched by 30 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operations Group (SOG) of state police in the area.

 

However, when forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there fired at them with automatic weapons.

 

The  forces also retaliated, ensuing in an encounter, Col Kalia said.

 

Three militants were killed and operation and operation has ended. A security personnel has also been injured in the encounter.

 

He said three weapons and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.
