Graveyard Demolished In Samba, Case Registered

SAMBA: J&K Police Thursday registered a formal case against Revenue official for demolishing some graves during a drive in Samba district of Jammu region. The case was lodged on the directions of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

Pertinently, during a demolition drive in Samba, the Revenue Department officials under the supervision of Block Development Officer in a bid to develop a graveyard into a play field had demolished dozens of graves and this action had evoked lot of criticism and resentment from Muslim community.

Special Officer Auqaf Islamia Committee Jammu Kashmir, Raj Muhammad told a local news agency CNS that the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti took strong note of this act after members of Auqaf and locals met Auqaf Minister Farooq Ahmed Andrabi.

“Locals along with Auqaf Minister met Chief Minister who directed Director General of Police Dr SP Ved to file a formal FIR against the Revenue officials,” he said.

Raj Muhammad added that an FIR has also been registered against Block Development Officer Anshu Man Singh who provoked and directed officials for the action.

He said that the said piece of land is sole property of Auqaf-e-Islamia and since long was notified for grave yard, but the some communal elements want to develop a play field there.

Meanwhile, locals protested against the said BDO and described him an ‘agent working for a BJP Minister’.

Locals said that the BDO is playing communal card to vitiate the atmosphere in the area.

Geelani Condemns

All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairperson, Syed Ali Geelani, Thursday expressed his deep concern over developing a playfield on the graveyard and demolishing “more than forty graves” during the drive-in Samba district of Jammu region.

Warning authorities, the pro-freedom leader said, “Muslim communities are being targeted and harassed on the behest of communal forces. It will have dire consequences if not stopped for now.”

“State administration is working on the directions of a BJP cabinet minister and revenue records reveal that said piece of land is sole property of Auqaf-e-Islamia and since long was notified for grave yard,” he added.

The Hurriyat patriarch blamed the PDP-BJP coalition regime saying, “from the very inception of this coalition, they are exercising their shrewd plans against Muslim community and they are being harassed on one pretext or the other.”

Geelani said that these groups “since long are playing foul and properties and lands belonging to Muslim community were grabbed and trespassed”.

Referring to communal sections, the Hurriyat Conference Chairperson said, “these people claim mosques and grave yards their properties and whenever Muslim communities resent their claims, they are beleaguered and victimized.”
