Srinagar: Scores of residents of Sheikhpora village of Mantrigam in northern district of Bandipora on Thursday staged a protest against the nocturnal firing by government forces.
The protesters alleged that the joint team of army and SOG last night laid a siege at Sheikpora village and without any reason opened several rounds of fire which created panic.
“Some residential houses were also hit by bullets which created more panic”, the protesters said.
The protesters blocked Bandipora-Gurez road for hours and demanded early action against the troops involved in the act.
Meanwhile, a police official when contacted told GNS that following some suspicious movement amid a tip off, forces opened few warning shots in the area.
After, the hour long search operation, the forces lifted the siege in the area, he said.
When asked about the bullets fired directly on houses, he said that he look into it.
