Anti-Militancy Ops: Clashes Leave Many Injured

SRINAGAR: Clashes erupted at twin places in South Kashmir’s Pulwama and Shopian districts as forces launch cordon and search operations after receiving inputs about the presence of suspected militants.

The forces cordoned off Heff Shermal area of Shopian district today and launched searches. However, as searches were underway, the locals came out of their houses and confronted government forces.

Reports said that the forces were pelted with stones by locals, ensuing clashes between the two sides.

As the clashes were underway, police fired dozens of teargas shells to disperse the locals hampering counter-insurgency operations. Later the search operation was called off.

A similar operation based upon an input about the presence of suspected militants was launched in Samboora village of Pampore area in Pulwama district.

As the searches were launched by troops, reports said, the locals came out of their houses and started pelting stones to disrupt the anti-militant operation.

The police fired teargas to disperse the protesters and also resorted to aerial firing.

At least five protesters were injured when four of them received bullet injuries while one was injured by pellets. The clashes continued till hours and no militant was zeroed in when reports last came.
