Gurez avalanche: Bodies of 4 missing soldiers recovered,toll touches 14

Bandipora: With the recovery of bodies of four missing soldiers from under the snow, the death toll in the avalanches that hit  an army patrol in Gurez area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district were recovered on Friday, taking the death toll to 14. 

An avalanche had hit an army patrol heading towards a post on Jan 25.

 ”Yes, we have retrieved the bodies of four missing soldiers in Gurez sector in north Kashmir district of Bandipora, where 24 Army personnel were buried under snow avalanches at two different places,” Defence ministry spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia told UNI.

However, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and six other soldiers were rescued, he said.
