Srinagar: Six army men have been killed after two avalanches hit army posts and patrols in Gurez sector of north Kashmir over two days, army said on Thursday.
In a statement, army said a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and six soldiers were rescued after the avalanches hit their posts
“An avalanche struck an army camp in Gurez Sector of J&K on 25 January 2017. Rescue operations were immediately launched in extreme bad weather and heavy snow fall.
The search operation enabled rescue of one JCO and six soldiers while bodies of three soldiers could only be retrieved today morning”, said a statement
“In another avalanche in the same area yesterday, one Army patrol moving towards the post went missing. The area continues to receive heavy snow fall. Braving inhospitable weather conditions, coordinated rescue operations are in progress in which three bodies could be recovered so far. Search operations continue,” added statement .
