Hundreds of Activists Arrested: Hurriyat (G)

Srinagar: All Parties Hurriyat Conference led by octogenerian Syed Ali Geelani on Wednesdaysaid that hundreds of its activists have been arrested ahead of January 26.

Speaking to the Kashmir Observer, Hurriyat Conference (G) spokesperson, Ayaz Akbar, said that the PDP-BJP government has arrsted hundreds of its activists since Tuesday morning.

“Many were called by police to their local police stations while as others were arrested,” Akbar said while condemning the government acttion.

He said that the Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani and his deputy, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, continue to remain under house detention at their respective residences.

Notably, Geelani continues to remain under house detention at his Hyderpora residenc  since 2010 while as Sehrai has not been relased from detention after Hizbul Mujahideen Commander, Burhan Wani, was killed by forces on July 08, 2016.

Sehrai was first detained at JKP’s Humhama post and later he was shifted to his Bhagat residence where he has been placed under house detetion.

Geelani has asked people to stay away from January 26 functions.

Castigating government for turning Valley in to garrison, Akbar said, “it is a war like situationin Kashmir.”

“It is humiliating as how forces are treating people ahead of January 26,” he said, “it seems as if India has been attacked.”

Akbar, however, said, “these events unfold that Kashmiris are not with India.”
