DoB ‘Proves’ Minor Booked under PSA

Srinagar: Langate lawmaker Er Rasheed Monday produced Date of Birth (DoB) certificate of the juvenile, who is languishing in Kotbalwal jail under notorious Public Safety Act (PSA), in J&K Legislative Assembly on Monday.

The certificate issued by the Government Middle School says, the boy Sahil Ahmad Malik son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Malik is a resident of Pamposh Colony, Palpora (Zone Eidgah) and his date of birth as per school records is 10/03/2002.

Pertinently, on Saturday the PDP-BJP government had informed the house that the incarcerated boy is not juvenile and his age is “between 20 to 25 years”.

Rasheed produced the certificate before the chair and said that “government was misleading” the house.

“The boy is an orphan and his father has died due of kidney failure,” Rasheed informed the house, “even his house was damaged in 2014 floods.”

Rasheed who visited Kotbalwal jail last week said that the boy is in a very “pathetic” condition and keeps crying all day.

The government sought one day’s time and assured the house that they will look into the matter.

Meanwhile, while talking to reporters outside the assembly complex in Jammu, Rasheed said that he will move a privilege motion against the officers in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly who allegedly forged the date of birth of Sahil.
