Er Rasheed’s Suspension from House Revoked

Srinagar: Independent legislator representing Langate constituency, Er Rasheed was on Saturday suspended from Jammu and Kashmir legislature for “creating disruptions”.

Deputy Speaker Nazir Gurezi ordered the suspension of Rasheed for two days after he “disrupted” the proceedings of the House.

Earlier, Rasheed taking a dig at the PDP-BJP government over the slapping of Public Safety Act (PSA) on 86-year-old man and 14-year-old boy Sahil Ahmad lodged in Kotbalwal Jail in Jammu.

He protested during question hour while thronging the well of the house and asked government why wasn’t it releasing the 14-year-old child and the 86-year-old man who have been slapped under PSA.

“This government is only slapping PSA on innocent people. Is this Agenda of Alliance? Is that 14-year-old a militant? What is Masarat Alam’s and Sarjan Barkati’s fault? The slogans of Sarjan were chanted by opposition in the House,” he asked.

Meanwhile, the government informed the Lower House of the state legislature that it has directed the Superintendent Central Jail Kotbalwal to ascertain the age of downtown boy Sahil Ahmad.

However, later Rasheed’s two-day suspension order was revoked after PDP’s MLA Chadoora Javaid Mustafa Mir requested the chair to reconsider the decision.

Gurezi while revoking the ban said, “Er Rasheed has been sabotaging the house and all members by not letting them speak.”

“I take back my decision but he should desist from such practices in future,” he added. (CNS)
