Militant Killed In Hajin Gunfight

Hajin: A militant was killed and an SOG man injured in an encounter in Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipore district on Thursday.

This is the second killing of a non-local militant in the area since January 10 when a Pakistani militant Abu Surag was also killed in a pre-dawn firefight.

A police official said that army and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police cordoned off the Parray Mohalla locality of Hajin after specific inputs about the presence of militants. He said that militants opened fire at the forces, triggering an encounter.

A militant, identified as Abu Musaib, was killed in the operation while another militant managed to escape, said the official. He said that Musaib was the operational commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba in Bandipora district.

Onlookers said that the body of the activist was not given over to the neighborhood populace notwithstanding their request and later on a substantial number of individuals offered funeral prayers in absentia for the killed militant.
