Massive traffic jam leads to chaos in Srinagar uptown

SRINAGAR: Commuters had to face immense hardships due to a massive traffic jam after some security force vehicles allegedly plied from wrong side on a one-war road in the uptown Srinagar.

Meanwhile, commuters told UNI that traffic police personnel were allegedly absent from the scene even when scores of vehicles were stuck in the jam for over an hour.

Large number of vehicles, including those carrying officials, businessmen and others, got stranded on Rambagh to HaftChinar stretch in uptown this afternoon after eight security force trucks came from the wrong side on a one way road, resulting in a massive traffic jam.

“We have been stuck at Aluchi Bagh from last one hour. Not even a single vehicle has moved even an inch from last 20 minutes. The traffic jam happened after eight Army trucks came from the wrong side on a one-way highly narrow road,” Yousin Saleem told UNI.

He said it is ironic that the traffic police personnel, who should have not allowed vehicles from the wrong side, were missing. “Traffic police could have controlled the situation, but their absence fueled to the chaos created due to the traffic jam,” he further alleged.

After being stuck in the traffic jam for over an hour, some of the passengers de-boarded the vehicles and made their way to civil lines on foot. “I de-boarded the passenger vehicle at Habchinar and walked to Lal Chowk because I was getting late for a meeting,” Nazir Ahmad, a sales executive, told UNI.
