Srinagar: Normal life remained crippled for the third day today due to strike in Bijbehara and adjoining areas in south Kashmir district of Anantnag, where three local Hizbul Mujahideen militants were killed in an encounter with security forces on Monday.
Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads for the second day today while work in government offices and banks was also affected due to strike, called by local organizations.
However, traffic on main highway was plying normally though additional security forces have been deployed to prevent any law and order problem.
Bijbehara, the home town of chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, witnessed massive protests against the killing of militants on Monday, when security forces had to fire in the air and also burst teargas shells to disperse the demonstrators.
Three Hizb local militants were killed in an encounter by security forces at village Awoora, Pahalgam on Monday. All the slain militants had recently posted their photograph alongwith two other militants who are still at large.
Security forces had declared the killing of these three militants as a major success as they were carrying rewards on their head.
