SRINAGAR: Government has summoned top brass of Kolkata based firm after it failed to meet the target in execution of dredging of river Jhelum.

They informed that the firm has so far carried 2.68 lakh cubic meters dredging against the target of 4 lakh cubic meters.
The development to summon the top brass of firm came after newly posted Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control. Muhammad Haneef Lone, communicated to the government about slow process of dredging.
The newly Chief Engineer Muhammad Haneef Lone communicated the figures achieved about dredging against the targets. He expressed displeasure over the slow process of dredging. Government, taking the cognizance of his report, summoned top officials of firm, said sources.
They added that government would make it clear to the firm that no further delay would be tolerated and the firm is bound to execute the project under terms and conditions of the contract.
The Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) department has awarded Rs 46 crore project to Kolkata-based dredging firm.
People time and again had said that in the name of dredging, authorities are wasting public money. The dredger pressed for dredging by the firm had time and again stopped working.
The precious and feasible time of dredging had already been wasted.
