Elections are the make or break time for any political party. They not only decide the fate of the contesting candidate, but also influence the future course of the party itself. They are an emphatic way by which people show their dissent and approval. A lot of speculations have been made about the Anantnag Assembly polls. While the usual cries of boycotting the elections have reverberated across the valley, the excitement among the people has been hard to miss. People are going to be keenly following the elections, as everyone is interested in knowing which party will emerge victorious. Will the Muftis continue their long reign over the South or will their unpopular alliance with BJP bring an end to their domination? Team KO asks a few locals. Here is what they feel.
I believe that PDP will go undefeated. During PDP’s governance, Anantnag not only saw an end to the Ikhwan menace but also witnessed development in every sector. PDP will surely emerge victorious in the Assembly elections.

I think most people are in favour of Ms. Mehbooba Mufti. Everyone I have had a conversation in this regard to, said they were going to vote for the honourable CM of the state.

Mufti Sayeed was quite popular with the people of Anantnag. His demise has obviously made people sympathetic towards MS. Mehbooba Mufti. She will definitely sweep all the votes. Also, Ms. Mufti has a broad vision for development of Anantnag so, we will all caste our votes in her favour.
— Younis Ah. Hajam ,Student
Might is right. Since PDP enjoys a very powerful position at present, most people will prefer voting for them. Mehbooba Mufti’s party will definitely lead in the assembly elections.
— Nisar Rasool, Journalist
I think people should cast their votes quite thoughtfully. PDP committed a big blunder by entering into an alliance with the highly unpopular BJP. People should show their disapproval for this alliance by not casting their votes in PDP’s favour. If this happens, the party and its leadership will learn an important lesson. They will come to know how much power people actually hold.
— Javaid Ah. Malik ,A Concerned Citizen
PDP holds an undefeated record in the south. Ms. Mufti has already won two assembly seats from Pahalgam and Wachi in two separate elections. She is highly popular among the locals. Even if there is a very less margin between the votes casted in each party’s favour, I am certain that PDP will be leading.

I think Congress will defeat both PDP and NC and that too with a huge margin. Both NC and PDP have made tall claims in the past but never pulled through. Congress, on the other hand, has always stood by the people and helped them in times of need.
— Imran Bhat ,A concerned citizen
The only deserving party left right now is Congress. NC disappointed us all during their rule and PDP leadership have sold themselves to BJP. Congress is the only party which has never changed its ideology or its position on certain fundamental issues.
— Manzoor Parray , Govt. employee
Any party can emerge victorious but circumstances favour those leaders who stood by the community during the ill-fated floods of 2014. PDP is the only party which has always worked for the development of Anantnag and its people so, I guess they rightly deserve to win.
— Rais Pala ,Pharmaceutical Representative
I am almost certain that NC will win. PDP as well as Congress, both have disappointed the common masses. I think it is time we gave NC a chance to prove themselves.
— Anwar Dar ,Student
If anyone deserves to win, it is PDP. They have proven their worth many times. The development and progress we see in Anantnag today is entirely PDP’s work. PDP has always stood by the people of Anantnag.

I believe Congress will sweep all the votes. Congress has always stood by the people and helped them in times of need. Congress is the only party which doesn’t just make promises but actually delivers them.
— Sohail ,Student
Anantnag is the hometown of Ms. Mufti so, there is no doubt that her party will win. They also deserve the win as they have always worked for the betterment of the people.
— Deen Imran , Journalist
National Conference will give a big defeat to the ruling party of Jammu and Kashmir. PDP showed everyone its true colours by partnering with BJP. No one will support a party which betrayed our trust.
— Aabid Hussain , Student
We should boycott the assembly elections because we know exactly how sincere our politicians are. They only lure people by fake promises and as soon as they get elected, they hardly bother to work for public welfare and the good of the community.
— Aijaz Naik ,PhD Scholar
I think it is time we gave NC a chance. We have all seen how much work PDP and congress did in Anantnag. It is time we put NC’s claims to test and see if they really are as sincere as they claim to be.
