SARFAESI Act, WPR Issue: Govt Gives Hurriyat New Cause To Fight For

Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference has called for a statewide protest on December 23 against Jammu and Kashmir government issuing domicile certificates to West Pakistan Refugees.

However, according to it, Hurriyat was not against the rehabilitation of these refugees on humanitarian grounds, but only outside the state.

Both the factions of Hurriyat Conference and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, spearheading the agitation since July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed in Anantnag, in a joint statement have appealed for statewide protests and demonstrations on Friday against government’s decision.

The separatists have already called for a two-day strike from Friday in its previous weekly protest calendar.

“Issuing domicile certificates to West Pakistan Refugees, court verdict challenging the sovereignty of Jammu Kashmir and allowing outside banks to confiscate and hold properties in Jammu Kashmir are the issues of life and death for our existence as Kashmiris,” the statement said.

The separatists’ alleged ruling PDP has again started working on its anti-Kashmir and anti-Muslim agenda, but people of Jammu Kashmir will not hesitate to offer any sacrifice to oppose such actions tooth and nail.

Terming these manoeuvres to change the demography of Jammu and Kashmir, resistance leaders said that PDP has started showing its true colors by initiating the process of creeping slowly and deceitfully towards the Hindutva agenda of its coalition partners.

“We are not against the rehabilitation of these refuges and on humanitarian grounds we fully support their every demand and urge the government to facilitate them and provide them all the rights they are eligible to,” it said.

“India is a huge country with more than 30 states and if they are sincere, honest and feel the sufferings of these refugees they can settle them any of their states, but settling them in a disputed land of Jammu and Kashmir will jeopardize and erode its historical & political contours, which is not acceptable to us at any cost,” it further said.

They said that yes-men of these imperialistic forces are mesmerized in their luxuries and have lost their wits as they are intoxicated under the influence of power and perks—but let us remind and caution these stooges not to put the valley to the flames of destruction and bloodshed, just to appease their coalition partners,” they said.

The Hurriyat said that by doing so they may be in good books of their masters but they can never stop themselves being consumed in these flames.

“History stands witness to the fact that traitors and tyrants had a very tragic and disgusting end and our present day stooges are no exemption,” the Hurriyat leadership said.

Appealing all the sects of the society including ulemas, imam’s, religious scholars, intellectuals, civil society, youth, traders and transporters to remain vigilant against these tactics, the joint leadership appealed them to hold peaceful protests on Friday (Dec 23) to convey a clear message to India, and the whole world that Kashmiris will fight such designs.

NC Warns Against Trampling State Subject Laws

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Wednesday cautioned against conspiracy being hatched by the BJP in connivance with PDP to dilute State Subject laws in a clandestine manner and under covert operations to weaken special status of the permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir.

“BJP has unleashed a sinister and motivated disinformation campaign, especially in the Jammu region, to hoodwink public opinion by creating an impression that doing away with the State Subject laws will benefit the Dogras’’, NC Provincial President Devender Singh Rana said while addressing a day-long convention here this afternoon.

He said that the Dogras will, on the contrary, be hurt the most.

Rana said though the BJP is systematically working towards repealing these laws by whipping up passions on this sensitive issue yet they are conveniently concealing the facts, which compelled the visionary Maharaja Hari Singh to enact the State Subject laws in 1927 to safeguard the interests of people of the State from dominance of elite and affluent sections of non-state subjects, essentially from the neighbouring Punjab.

He said enactment of these laws had not been sought either by the people of Kashmir or Ladakh but the Dogras of Jammu had legitimate apprehensions about wealthy businessmen from Punjab settling down in the region and shrinking their economy.

“The farsightedness shown by the Maharaja over nine decades ago is now being negated and exploited by the BJP, in its mistaken pursuit of ultra-nationalism’’, he said.

He said that the coalition partners, PDP and BJP are in league to clandestinely repeal this constitutional guarantee, which is a legitimate provision to preserve the rights of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. In this context he referred to his resolution moved in the Legislative Assembly for taking effective legal, political and administrative steps to safeguard Article 35A of the Constitution of India, which was opposed by the ruling combination
