JAMMU: Bhartiya Janata Party leader and Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Chowdhary Tuesday said that out of 80,000 crore package announced by Government of India to Jammu and Kashmir, Rs 2,000 crore will be given to displaced people of Pakistan administered Jammu and Kashmir presently settled in different parts of Jammu region. We have received the complete package yet but in coming days government of India will surely release the next installment, Chowdhary told news agency CNS.
This package was mistaken as flood package but it is meant for the overall development of the State of Jammu and Kashmir. The incumbent government has already renovated and reconstructed the structures damaged due to devastating 2014 floods. Besides, we have compensated the losses that different departments incurred during the floods, he said.
Responding to a question, Sham Lal Chowdary said the government has started almost all the water-supply schemes and this winter there will be no water shortage. This government is meant for the people and we have been working hard to ease the hardships of the people, he said and added that the age old drainage system in Kashmir particularly in Srinagar city will be given a new shape to prevent water logging of the city roads.
