Srinagar:- Kashmiri graduates, who left valley for Delhi through UDAAN during the ongoing unrest, Tuesday, complained of being served alien and unhygienic food.
The young graduates and post graduates were promised to get jobs in Delhi and other parts of the country.
But, they are being treated ill by the scheme itself which is claiming of securing their accommodations and other essentials. Students said, besides the monthly stipend of Rs 2500 promised to be paid to each candidate, for the month of November, has not been paid yet.
The students left their native places to other parts outside for job through UDAAN in the ongoing unrest, which has resulted to massive economic losses in the valley after the killing of Burhan Wani, a young militant commander.
We are stranded. We dont have even pocket money. We came here for the hope but we have been neglected by the scheme which is giving sleepless nights here, Suhail Ahmad a students from Delhi said.
He said, Majority of the candidates, among around a hundred are putting up in a hotel at Sarita Vihar in New Delhi. We did not receive the monthly promised earnings. Yesterday they gathered in the hotel reception to register their protest against this ill-treatment and later went out for lunch at various roadside eateries in the locality. It is not the first time we got to eat this all-water-food. It has been like this since we arrived in the hotel one-and-a-half month ago, said a protesting candidate wishing not to be named. Food and stipend is not the only problem these graduates are faced with. They have issues with the way they have been accommodated in different rooms of the hotel also.
A bed meant for two persons only is being utilized for the sleep to three and sometimes more than that. Those who sleep on its sides fell many times during night and get hurt, unfortunately, annoyed students said.
