National flag and imposed nationalism

Supreme court’s recent order to play national anthem in cinema halls before the start of movies will boost the nationalism in country and make people more aware about the nation and national ethos needs a revision and will be finalised in February. Meanwhile the cinemas will play the national anthem from  December 10. Is nationalism needed to be taught or should it be the inner consciousness of people?

“Nationalism is infantile thing, it is measles of mankind”,  it was said by great physist Albert Einstein. Wasn’t he wise to convey his thoughts or are we smarter than the previous generations of mankind whose discoveries and inventions are we utilising to sustain the survival. Nationalism and justice are two things which must be paralleled to one another.

But what is irony in our country, the nationalism is equated with security of the nation. Those who are not nationalists are threat to security of country.

Should this be followed religiously? May be yes, judiciary says so. Anything said againt judiciary will be  the contempt of law. Religious following of Indian constitution violate the religious faith and sentiments of certain sections of society. Before imposing nationalism to diverse nation shouldn’t one think about the review of national symbols that are not in compliance with all religious faiths.

Implications of nationalism is to be considered with humanistic way too. What about those people in cinema halls who are not able to stand?  Will there be reserved part of hall for them? Should they be labelled as anti-nationals as they can’t stand or will there be the security arrangement for them in all cinemas to be protected by mob violance?

The apex court must think about the inferences before reviewing the case in February. Any law making body must think about people before the group and nation. True nationality should be of mankind and true nationalism must be of humanity.

Nationalism is not chauvinism, vigilantism, fascism, madness, flags and anthems rather patriotism and inner conscience of individual which can’t be imposed but developed through the humanistic behaviour of people and state. People must stand by the love of national symbols of country not by force.

Nationalism has changed its meaning from patriotism to government, now the critics of government policies are seen through the lenses of nationalism. Those who are critical to national policies are not loyal to country.

Who will decide the nationalism of people ? Cinema? Then what about those who don’t watch movies. Will government make it mandatory to watch at least one movie in a month for every person? How will be nationalism of people like Anna Hazare decided who has not gone to cinema after the age of 15? Will these people be provided subsidies on film tickets?

“People who enjoy waving flags does not deserve to have one” is a quote of Banksy. This is happening in reality. It is insecurity which makes people sing the songs of nationalism. Patriots of nation don’t not need certification of institutions.

Nationalism must be watched through the lenses of justice,  not in the light of security. People must understand the difference between vigilantism and nationalism, between nationalism and patriotism.
