Srinagar: After markets remained abuzz with the shoppers for the past three days following relaxation in the strike announced by the separatists, life was affected again as business and other activities remained shut on Tuesday though private and public vehicles, including cabs, were plying in good numbers on various routes in Kashmir.
All educational institutes, which registered almost full attendance despite chill since Saturday due to three day relaxation given by separatists, again wore a deserted look.
The number of vehicles plying on roads was very less as compared to the last three days, when there was relaxation in strike.
As the day temperature witnessed considerable improvement since Saturday, business and other activities were abuzz from last three days as enthusiastic shoppers flooded the markets to buy warm clothes, besides other essential items following relaxation by separatists for the fourth successive week.
All shops were again closed in the main business hubs in civil lines, including Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the city. The situation was no different in uptown, where shops and business establishments, which were open for three days till Monday, were again closed.
Both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), spearheading the agitation, had for the first time since July 9 announced relaxation for three days. The separatists have, however, extended the strike till December 15.
A report from Baramulla said that life was again affected due to strike in this and other major towns and tehsil headquarters in north Kashmir, where markets witnessed a heavy rush from last three days.
Security forces and state police personnel remained deployed in entire north Kashmir, where shops and business establishments again were shut today though some private, besides some public transport, was plying on roads.
Some private vehicles, besides passenger vehicles, could be seen plying on some routes and security forces remained deployed on bridges over river Jehlum, connecting old town with civil lines in Baramulla.
Similar reports were received from Kupwara, Handwara, Bandipora, Ajas, Pattan and Palhalan, where life again came to a halt.
A report from Pulwama said that business and other activities, which were functional for three days till yesterday, were again closed in this and other south Kashmir towns, including Anantnag, Kulgam, Awantipora, Pampore and Pahalgam.
Some private vehicles, besides public transport were plying on many routesin south Kashmir. Government offices and banks were also affected due to the strike.
Reports of complete strike were also received from central Kashmir districts of Ganderbal and Badgam, including Kangan, Charar-e-Sharief, Chadoora and Chanapora, where business establishments and shops were open for three days till yesterday due to relaxation in strike. However, some passenger and public transport was plying on roads at some places in the Ganderbal and Budgam.
