Srinagar:- While the authorities have banned stone quarrying activities in Athwajan and Pantha Chowk, the people associated with the business on Monday staged a protest against the government decision here at Pampore area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Hundreds of people including men, women and children took to streets and blocked the main road in the area thereby leaving the commuters to suffer.
Witnesses said that hundreds of vehicles were seen stranded on the road due to the blockage of raod by the protesters. The protesters were not allowing the commuters to move.
Talking to KNS, the protesters said that the government has imposed ban on stone quarrying activities, which is their lone source of earning bread.
“Such government order will certainly leave hundreds of people associated with the business to starvation. Keeping in view of the sufferings of people affiliated with the business, the government must revoke the order at earliest,” they said.
They said that they have already suffered huge loss due to the ongoing unrest and with such orders the government has put their families at stake.
While appealing Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti to revoke such order, protesters said, “The government led by Miss Mehbooba Mufti must look into the matter and revoke the order at soon as possible.
