Srinagar:- Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti should release the thousands of people arrested during the summer unrest this year in the Valley as it did not require the Centre’s approval, opposition National Conference leader Omar Abdullah said on Monday. “How about you start releasing the many 1000s that have been arrested & withdraw cases @MehboobaMufti? That doesn’t require Delhi to act,” Omar, a former chief minister of the state, said on Twitter.
His comments came after Mehbooba, during a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi earlier in the day, pressed for initiation of confidence-building measures to reach out to the people of the state.
The National Conference working president said Mehbooba will have to look to the Centre as she has surrendered all the authority of the chief minister’s office.
“True to form @MehboobaMufti will look to the centre for everything because she has surrendered all the authority of her office,” he said.
