Kulgam: Thousands of mourners participated in the funeral processions of two slain cops killed in a militant attack on Friday in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
According to the eyewitnesses, thousands of people visited the slain cop Jalaluddin Khandey’s family and expressed their sympathies with them Khandey a resident of Sopar Kulgam was killed along with his colleague Tanvir Ahmed of Kanipora from the same district.
The mourners who visited Khandey’s family said that the slain cop never harassed anyone and he was a noble person. “He was unarmed when shot dead. During his 12 years service, he spent 10 years in Rajouri. He never carried a weapon and on Friday when he was killed, he was only carrying a stick in his hand,” Tariq Ahmed, the cousin of the slain cop said.
Khandey is survived by his wife and two children, Hoor-un-Nisa (5) and Inamulhaq who is six months old.
Reports from Kanipora Kulgam said that hundreds of people participated in the last rites of another slain cop Tanvir Ahmed. “Tanvir was the sole bread earner for his family. He was doing a table job but during unrest was posted in the district,” said his family members.
Pertinently, the suspected militants attacked a police party in Kulgam on Friday in which both the cops were killed and another cop Shamsuddin was critically injured. No militant outfit claimed the responsibility of the attack.
