Srinagar: While expressing sympathy with the family of Khateeja Begum, mother of Mohd Shafi Sheikh of Kareem Abad Pulwama, who passed away while her son was in jail, AIP Supremo and MLA Langate Er. Rasheed today strongly hit out at state government and security agencies for not facilitating the son to attend funeral of his beloved mother.

In a statement issued to PTK, Er. Rasheed said, “The tools of Indian state need to understand that Kashmiris are not so dull that they can’t understand how their religious, political, social, legal and other rights are being withheld only for the fault that they are Kashmiris and Muslims.”

He said the state home secretary and DGP need to answer that if dozens including Sunjay Dutt and Subrato Sahay, could get release on parole for one reason or the other why should Kashmiris despite being jailed for political reasons, be not allowed to mourn death of their beloved ones”.

Er. Rasheed accused a section of state police officers of doing everything to demoralize Kashmiris and break the will of people of Jammu & Kashmir and added that these police officers especially hailing from our own state must not forget that it is not necessary that their kids would also be police officers tomorrow and they may face the same fate what they are doing with the families like that of Khateeja Begum and many others.
