Mainstream parties of Jammu and Kashmir which have ruled Kashmir since 1947 have never been interested in finding a permanent solution to the Kashmir dispute. Their past as well as present statements regarding the Kashmir issue have always been ambiguous and have only created chaos and confusion among the people of Kashmir. It is very difficult for the common masses to analyze their statements regardless of whether their statements are pro-Indian, pro-Pakistani or pro-Kashmiri. National Conference which has ruled the state numerous times has mostly won the elections by either rigging or through unfair means including the help and support of some bureaucrats and police officers, who were later promoted to higher posts and provided undue benefits for their loyalty.
The party’s undemocratic and nefarious designs have always sabotaged the democratic system in Jammu and Kashmir. This so called mainstream party has deceived the people of Jammu and Kashmir several times by pretending to be their well-wishers and making promises they had no intentions of keeping. It is ironical how NC’s stand, during their period of reign has always been pro-Indian and as soon as they go out of power, they suddenly become the sympathisers of the common people. NC has never been in the least interested in the welfare of the common people of Kashmir. Something which even the RAW Chief, Mr A.S. Dulat in his book “Kashmir, The Vajpayee years” points out. If we analyze their founder, Mr. Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah’s political statements, it is very difficult to decipher them and make sense out of them. Mr. Abdullah tried his best to befool both the countries and his own people for his own gain. All he did was play delaying tactics to prolong the agony of the people of Kashmir. By creating a dilemma in the minds of the gullible people of Kashmir, he succeeded in achieving his personal goals. During his reign, people of Jammu and Kashmir were treated no better than dumb herds of cattle and anyone who dared to raise his or her voice was dealt with an iron fist. His hypocritical tactics are something all the current mainstream parties have adopted.
The mainstream parties issue ambiguous statements which the common people find hard to decipher and thus end up being fooled by them. Had they really been sincere in their motives, they would have actually tried to resolve the long standing Kashmir dispute or at least made a serious effort to discuss about it in their numerous public meetings. One of these so called sympathisers of the people even suggested India to bombard the neighboring country in order to teach it a lesson.
Both the center and our state’s mainstream parties label our public rallies as a handiwork of Pakistan, and the people participating in them as anti-national elements, who need to be severely dealt with. National Conference, PDP and Congress each, during their tenure, labelled Kashmiris as anti-national elements and booked many of them, including small children, under PSA, TATA, POTA, DDA, and other inhuman draconian laws like AFSPA. These mainstream leaders who change their opinion like seasons, are the ones responsible for pushing our once happy vale into a depressed jail. During the 2010 turmoil when the coalition Govt. of NC and Congress killed 120 persons and injured thousands of innocent people through bullet and pellets, they justified the killings and injuries with lame outrageous excuses like the present government is. How are the people of Kashmir expected to trust these so called leaders who change their colours and statements like a Chameleon? How are we to believe these leaders who have been deceiving us for decades? It is these politicians, whose dual polices, have aggravated the Kashmir issue and have created an atmosphere of anger, distrust and chaos in Kashmir. They are the ones compelling the youth to come out on streets to protest. They have maligned the slogan of “Insaiyat, Jhamuriyat, Kashmiryat” which they throw around in their speeches and rallies like a family heirloom. If these mainstream politicians are even a little bit sincere towards the people they represent, they urgently need to accept the suggestions of MLA Er. Rashid and mass resign and join the resistance group. Giving mere sympathetic statements will neither resolve the Kashmir issue nor help overcome people’s woes. They will only add on to our miseries and further furnish anger in our society.
