Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) on Friday condemned the government’s decision of not allowing its chairman Syed Ali Geelani to offer Friday prayer, continuous siege of the Jamia Masjid Srinagar, arrest of pro-freedom leaders Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik.
In a statement issued to GNS, the conglomerate said Geelani tried to reach Jamia Masjid Srinagar but a large contingent of police force locked the main gate and didn’t open it despite repeated knocks.
“Stopping an individual from performing religious responsibilities is a gross violation of human rights and interference in the personal and religious rights. By doing so, New Delhi and its local voices have exposed their secularism and hollow slogans of religious freedom. Their claims of providing the right to liberty and equality are nothing but the age-old deceitful slogans which they have been using to befool others,” it said.
Condemning the siege of Central Jamia Masjid Srinagar for last four months and disallowing Friday prayers there, the amalgam said government has “purposefully joined hands with the preachers of Hindutva to implement the Nagpour agenda”. “They have waged war against the whole community by forcefully preventing people from offering prayers. Disallowing the Friday prayers in Jamia Masjid, Srinagar is the worst and autocratic attitude of interference in the religious obligations of the people. They should be ashamed of themselves as the grand mosque is waiting for namazis and no azan is reverberated there for the last four months.”
Hurriyat (G) said Indian patriots, secularists, and those claiming to uphold the ‘Kashmiryat’ and Kashmiri hospitality need to “introspect” as to why they don’t dare to come on TV screens to deliver sermons on “glorifying” actions of their ‘Kashmiriyat’.
The conglomerate said “demonizing” Muslims and “proudly celebrating Diwali” is done to appease the coalition partners and due to fear of being categorized as staunch Muslims. “No doubt, these collaborators have Muslim names but their conduct and mindset is totally un-Islamic and anti-Muslim as they have mortgaged their faith for petty and mean interests. These paid agents of Saffron Brigade will never ever be able to dent our resolve for freedom,” it said.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement issued, the amalgam has condemned the arrest of its activist Abdul Ahad Parra from Rajbagh. (GNS)
