Srinagar: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today urged Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to intervene for setting up a National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) centre for postgraduate (PG) medical courses in Kashmir.
President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan in a statement KNS appealed to the Chief Minister (CM) Mehbooba Mufti to prevail upon the concerned authorities to establish a NEET-PG centre in Kashmir.
"We are hopeful CM will press for a centre in Kashmir that would bring relief to thousands of aspiring doctors who are appearing for various postgraduate courses," he said.
"Though Kashmir has infrastructure and facilities to conduct this online examination, yet it has not been provided a centre."
Dr Hassan said that this would not only jeopardize the career of candidates but would mean depriving people of Kashmir the services of specialist doctors.
"While for majority in Kashmir there is no centre, but Jammu has been given one, which clearly shows a regional bias.
National Board for Examination is conducting an online common entrance test for various PG medical courses from this year which is being held from December 05 to 13.
"For this test, 86 examination centers have been established in 41 cities across the country, but to our utter dismay Kashmir has been left out."
He said that this has put doctors working in different hospitals in trouble as they won’t be able to write the test.
"They won’t be able to leave their hospitals at a time Kashmir is facing a crisis. Their leaving would mean putting sick and wounded at risk. When NEET was imposed, Kashmir was up in arms against the decision as it was against the special status of the state and would shatter the dreams of aspiring candidates," he said.
"That time we were told that it won’t be against the interests of aspirants, but the claim has proved a hoax." (KNS)
