Srinagar: Scores of attendants at SMHS hospital Friday alleged that doctors in the Ward No. 6 went on a rampage thrashing whosoever came in their way after a woman died there due to the alleged medical negligence. The doctors, they alleged, also damaged the hospital property.
According to the reports, a patient from Qazigund had died in the Ward No. 6 due to the alleged medical negligence on which one Javaid Ahmad, a Gotapora Narbal whose mother had been shifted in the same ward, raised a hue and cry.
“The doctors shifted my mother to Ward No: 6 much to my opposition as no doctor was available in the ward that could have jeopardised my mother’s life,” Javaid Ahmad said. “My fears came true when a patient died before my own eyes as no doctor attended to him.”
“A doctor slapped me right on my face when I raised a hue and cry,” Javaid said. “In the ensuing scuffle, I managed to push him away after other attendants came to my help.”
Javaid said that soon after the doctor came to the ward along with half a dozen more doctors and started beating the attendants left, right and centre. “They not only thrashed me but also damaged the heating system and smashed the windowpanes of the hospital ward,” he said adding the doctors thrashed his sister and brother-in-law also.
Scores of attendants in one voice accused doctors of hooliganism and said that the victim was even beaten up in front of Medical Superintendent of the hospital.
“When we informed MS about the incident, the doctors thrashed Javaid Ahmed in his presence and threatened him of dire consequences,” eyewitnesses recounted. “The irony is that these doctors approached police station and asked police to detain not only Javaid Ahmed but also the person who filmed the entire act of hooliganism.”
They alleged the doctors smashed the cellphone of the attendant into pieces. “The doctors snatched my ‘Redmi’ phone while I was filming the incident,” a Pulwam resident said. “The hospital security took to police station where the officials allowed me to go after the intervention of the attendants who were witness to the incident.”
Medical Superintendent Dr Nazir Chowdhary refused to comment on the incident, however a police officer confirmed that doctors have thrashed the attendant, caused damage to hospital property and smashed the cell phone of a youth.
“We have received a complaint from Medical Superintendent SMHS against the attendant Javaid Ahmed. However, eyewitnesses approached us who accused the doctors of all the ruckus,” the official said.
“Doctors have thrashed the attendant and damaged hospital property. We are looking into the matter. Justice will be delivered to the victim,” the police official quoted attendants having said.
