Kupwara:Paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Monday allegedly went on berserk and beat up people including females in Muqam-e-Shahwali village of this north Kashmir’s district.
According to the eyewitness, CRPF troopers barged inside the houses and beat up inmates ‘without any provocation’. “The troopers didn’t even spare girls and they were slapped and beaten. They smashed men with batons and gun butts. The rampaging by CRPF came as a shock for the inmates as there was no stone pelting going on in the area,” they said.
The residents said there were no stone pelting clashes in the area ever since the present unrest erupted in the Valley. “There is no justification for beating people by the forces like it was done today by barging inside our houses,” they said.
The residents further said that the rampaging troopers also entered inside the resident of famous religious scholar late Mufti Jamal–ud-Din and beat up his daughters and the other members of the family. The troopers, they said, also fired tear gas shells deep into the area apparently to frighten the locals.
“Where should we go? Can’t we stay inside our houses? Has the Government announced war against innocents,” the angry locals asked and demanded Government to take action against erring CRPF men. The residents also questioned the entry of the CPRF troopers into the village when no forces’ personnel entered the village since the unrest.
“Why would CRPF barge inside the houses when there was not even any deployment in our area in last over 100 days. The government should at least tell us our fault which made it to give us such an appalling treatment,” the residents said, adding, “They beat up a 10 year old namely Zubair Hajam so ruthlessly by kicking him and throttling his neck and latter bundled him in their vehicle”.
The inhabitants also warned that all responsibility shall lie on Government if any untoward happens to the minor held by CRPF and subsequently handed over to police. Later however Zubair was released but his father, Ghulam Mohiuddin was held. When contacted, the SP Kupwara, Shamsher Hussain, assured to look into the matter. He said: “There was deployment (of CRPF and Police) as there were reports that Taranas are played via mosque loud speakers in the area.
