Srinagar: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today demanded to set up examination centre in Kashmir for National Eligibility cum Entrance test (NEET).
Urging concerned authorities to establish centre in Kashmir, President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan in a statement said this would bring relief to thousands of aspirants who are appearing for various postgraduate medical courses.
“NEET is a single window entrance examination for various MD/MS and Diploma courses and it has replaced all state level tests. The test for the academic session 2017 will be held across the country from December 5th-13th, 2016. This online examination will be conducted by the National Board of Examination that has provided 86 test centres at 41 cities,” he said.
The DAK said with no centre in Kashmir, the aspirations of doctors in the valley are under the threat of going down the drain. “While Jammu has been provided with a centre, but for majority in Kashmir there is no centre which is unfair. This would jeopardize the career of thousands of aspirants who would not be able to write the examination,” he said.
He said most of the doctors who are appearing for the test are working in various hospitals and going to Jammu for the test would affect the functioning of the hospitals.
“Patient care will be affected at a time when medical emergency has been declared in view of ongoing crisis. The examination is scheduled at a time when valley remains cut off from rest of the country. Going outside Kashmir means lot of expenses on travelling and hotels which for many aspirants becomes financially unviable,” he said. (PTK)
