Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today reviewed the security situation in Kashmir valley and reiterated the need for a Multi Agency Security Audit to be conducted by the State Police in close collaboration with other agencies to ensure the safety and security of all civil and military vital installations.
The review meeting comes in the backdrop of an encounter which lasted for 58 hours at Pampore on Srinagar-Jammu national highway. Two militants were killed and any many security force personnel were injured in the encounter.
An official spokesperson said that Mr Vohra held a meeting at the Raj Bhavan today to review the security situation consequent to the militant attack at Pampore earlier this week.
“The meeting was attended by Northern Army Commander; Director General of Police J&K; GOC 15 Corps; Principal Secretary to Governor; IG, CRPF; IG, (Ops) CRPF and Intelligence Bureau head in J&K,” he said.
He said it was recalled that after the Pathankot terror attack, it had been decided, during the then period of Governor’s Rule, that a Multi Agency Security Audit shall be conducted by the State Police in close collaboration with the IB, CAPF, Army, Air Force and other concerned agencies.
“In this context, and in the background of the militant attacks at Poonch, Uri, Handwara and, most recently at Pampore, it was agreed that surveillance should be enhanced not only along the IB and LoC, as already done, but also in the entire hinterland,” he said.
He said counter-militant operations should be resumed and, side by side, identified steps should be taken to safeguard and effectively ensure the safety and security of all civil and military vital installations and establishments in J&K.
