Srinagar: At least six shops were gutted in a mysterious fire at Qamarwari Chowk of Srinagar city while the affected shopkeepers hold vendors responsible for the devastation.
“Some unidentified persons had informed the shopkeepers of the area through a letter to open up the shops only during relaxation period. The fact is that we never opened up our shops but there are vendors who erect stalls in front of our shops. We have been punished for none of our fault,” said a shopkeeper.
“I lost everything in the devastated fire. We don’t know who set our shops on fire but we have firm reasons to believe that we were targeted for the ‘greed’ of vendors,” the shopkeeper said.
Chowki Officer Qamarwari Police Post said that they are investigating the matter. “We have registered a case. The cause of fire has not been ascertained yet but most probably the shops have been gutted due to electric short circuit,” he said.
