Pulwama: People from Dadsara area of Tral town in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district alleged that government forces including Para-military Central Reserve Police Force and Special Operation Group personnel resorted to unprovoked massive shelling on Friday night. The locals said that the forces personnel resorted to PAVA and tear-smoke shelling for more than hour from 12 of the night onwards.
The locals told news agency CNS that at around 12 of the Friday night, CRPF and SOG personnel emerged in Dadsara and fired PAVA shells and tear gas shells in the area without any count. “The area was peaceful when they opened the mouth of their weapons. Out of fear people came on roads and started protesting against the highhandedness of the forces personnel. As the protest was going on, the armed men targeted power transformers snapping the electricity in the area,” they said.
They alleged that government forces action was aimed at to provoke the people for protest and when people protested they arrested a youth Muhammad Iqbal Mir son of Abdul Rehman Mir. “Are these government armed men not accountable before any authority? Are they here to restore normalcy or aggravate the situation. We fail to understand who are the men at the helm of affairs who are hell bent to harass common people and foment trouble in the area,” the locals said adding that thousands of people spent whole night on the roads while due to massive shelling people with different ailments couldn’t sleep.
When contacted a police official told CNS that people in the area pelted stones on security forces when they were busy in clearing bottlenecks on the road.
Meanwhile, police arrested the Headmaster of Government High School Padgampora from Charsoo village. The family members of the Headmaster said that they don’t know on what charges Ghulam Mohiuddin Chisti was picked up by police. Police also arrested a youth Adil Ahmed from Norpora Tral during a night raid on charges of stone-pelting. (CNS)
