Sopore: A youth was allegedly beaten to death by army in a villge in Sopore in north Kashmir the previous evening. Body of a 24-year-old Manzoor Lone of Hardshiva was found in a stone quarry today morning. The onlookers said that some yoth pelted rocks at the armed force camp after Eid prayers in Zainageer. "The armed force pursued the stone-pelting youth. Manzoor concealed himself in the stone quarry after the pursuit. Armed forces seized him and whipped him mercilessly," said witnesses. "He was later packaged into an armed force vehicle and taken to their camp. But he was already dead."
As the news of his passing spread, people took to roads and staged massive protests demanding requesting a FIR against the armed force and the expulsion of the armed force camp from the territory.
However, police and paramilitary CRPF personnel resorted to teargas shelling to disperse the protesters. Army has denied any involvement in the killing of the youth.
