SRINAGAR: Night raids will continue to nab “miscreants”, Kashmir Police Chief, Syed Javaid Mujtaba Gilani, said on Tuesday.
“To ensure peace in valley,” Gilani said, “it has to happen.”
Gilani was addressing press in Anantnag district on the conclusion of his two-day visit to south Kashmir. This was second formal meet of any top cop with press since July 09, 2016. The press meet was held at the official residence of DIG South Kashmir at Khanabal.
Gilani made these comments on the day when a 20-year-old youth, Naseer Ahmad, was killed after police and CRPF fired pellets on protestors in Islamabad district.
“We will try to make sure that maximum restrain is maintained, but we will have to use it (pellet) when needed, though we have included additional shells,” Gilani said in response to queries about use of pellets.
IGP said people don’t let forces to work rather they attack them. That is why our men are compelled to take action, in which deaths occur.”
During the two-day visit, the IGP met number of officials from Army, CRPF and police and discussed the prevailing situation.
The IGP further said, “There are reports of rise in militancy, but we are analysing the situation. The operations against militants will be surged once situation gets better.”
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Police chief K Rajendra Kumar on Tuesday said elements trying to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in the state need to be dealt with firmly.
